Too many times we see celebrities jump on the bandwagon when it comes to rooting for professional sports teams as most of them tend to cheer for the most popular ones such as the New York Yankees or Los Angeles Lakers. As for actor George Clooney, he’s always kept his roots for his beloved Cincinnati teams and received the opportunity to joke around with Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed Sunday night during the Oscar’s.
As difficult as it may be to root for them, Clooney has never been shy about his love for the Cincinnati Bengals and even joked around with Reed on the red carpet by saying, “You hurt me bad, I’m a Bengals fan.” Obviously, Clooney was referring to the Ravens surprise run in January when they overcame numerous obstacles before defeating the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII.
Apparently, Reed received the opportunity to work the red carpet for Rich Eisen‘s podcast with the NFL Network and as much as Clooney says he was joking–it’s safe to say the joke must have stung a little bit considering all of the frustration surrounding the Bengals in the AFC North over the last couple of seasons. Despite reaching the playoffs in each of the last two season, Cincinnati is 0-4 in the postseason during the Marvin Lewis era and always seems to have their hands full in the division between the Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers.
On the bright side, at least Clooney and the rest of the Bengals fans have something to be excited about in A.J. Green as he’s quickly emerging into one of the league’s top wide receivers.
