The title says it all. Cam Newton will be nasty good this season.

Grammatical errors aside, the statement will prove to be prophetic as Newton enters his third season as quarterback for the Carolina Panthers. This season will be Newton’s best yet, and he will be one of the most dynamic players in the entire NFL.

Newton will be a beast and the reasons are obvious.

This will be the first season with Mike Shula calling the plays in Carolina. He is a proven offensive commodity and has been Newton’s quarterbacks coach for the last two seasons. This gives them both a feeling of continuity as they move forward, plus they now have the opportunity to put all of the little wrinkles they have been talking about for the last two years into place. It will be an exciting time for both of them and that type of excitement is infectious.

There are also rumors of the Panthers going out in free agency and chasing down one of the top tier wide receivers. If they are somehow able to make the cap moves necessary and land a big name weapon such as Mike Wallace to add alongside of veteran Steve Smith, and up-and-comer Brandon LaFell, the Panthers receiving corps would become one of the most exciting groups in the league.

Newton is perceived as having an off season in 2012, but his numbers were very similar to those from his rookie season in 2011. With the so-called sophomore slump behind him, Newton will be coming into this season with a chip on his shoulder. No one can deny Newton’s physical abilities. The talent level is off the charts and with Shula leading the way, Newton could easily become the most dangerous weapon in the NFL.
