Should the Denver Broncos Consider Steven Jackson at RB?

(Kim Klement/USA Today Sports)

With free agency set to begin in a few weeks, St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson decided to void the final year of his contract and test the open market to see what other teams have to offer. While numerous teams will most likely make a run at the running back once free agency gets under way, there is one team that should strongly consider bringing Jackson on board for the 2013 season–the Denver Broncos.

Despite having one of the top offenses in the league in 2012, it’s no secret the Broncos could certainly use some extra help in the ground game and when looking at Jackson’s career–there’s no question he could have an impact heading into next year. The argument can be made that being on the Rams has held Jackson back of reaching his true potential over the last couple of years and an opportunity in Denver would give him a chance to play for a contender.

Plus, Jackson’s recorded at least 1,000 rushing yards in each of his last eight seasons–which the Broncos would love to have for the 2013 season. For an offense already loaded with plenty of talent in the passing game, Jackson could make Denver that much better and help them emerge as one of the top teams in the AFC once again.

Of course, there’s still plenty of time between now and the start of free agency before either of these sides would be able to discuss a deal–so there’s no reason to make a big deal over anything just yet.
