Denver Broncos Should Not Sign Shonn Greene Unless He Comes Cheap

The Denver Broncos have shown a lot of interest lately of adding another running back to their already crowded back field and they may need to because of their situation, but it doesn’t need to be a back like Shonn Greene, who doesn’t pass block well.

Willis McGahee is the most solid, well-rounded back that the Broncos have but he is coming off an injury that kept him sidelined for eight weeks and ended his season.  Knowshon Moreno is slightly too small to be a workhorse and is only decent in pass blocking. Ronnie Hillman is 5’9″ and 185 lbs. and is only considered a change-of-pace or third-down back. He hasn’t mastered pass blocking yet either which kept him off the field more than on it in 2012.

Greene is a bigger back that the Broncos are lacking and has had two 1,000-yard seasons in a row, but he doesn’t pass block very well. The Broncos will need a pass-blocking back if they are going to lose McGahee or if he doesn’t return to his top form after his injury.

I’m not saying that Greene couldn’t help the Broncos because he could, but if he comes at a high price I think there are better options that may be worth the money via free agency or the NFL draft. I have a feeling that Greene won’t come cheap and if that is the case I hope the Broncos stay clear.
