The New York Giants have a lot of upcoming free agents. One of them is wide receiver Ramses Barden. Barden is a former third round draft pick, however, due to injuries and other issues, he has yet to produce. Is it time to let him walk.
Barden was supposed to be the guy to replace what Plaxico Burress did. Last year was his best after being forced into duty. He had a huge game week three against the Carolina Panthers when he had nine catches for 138 yards and a touchdown. After that, he only had four catches for 58 yards the rest of the season.
Barden doesn’t sound like he’s all that happy about the prospects of returning to the Giants. He was on Siriusxm NFL Radio and said this:
“I’m really kind of excited for the offseason, because as much fun as I’ve had in New York — yeah, I was comfortable there — it’s probably best for me to start looking in other places for a new system, a refreshed sense of welcoming. I think everybody can benefit from newness in their lives at a certain time, and this is going to be one of those for me.”
That doesn’t sound like someone who really wants to come back. Honestly, for his sake, he should go look around. If he comes back, he’s the fourth wide receiver. There are teams that could give Barden more of a shot to play regularly than the Giants. However, if nothing materializes, I think the Giants should bring him back at a reasonable contact and give him a shot to compete with Rueben Randle for the third receiver spot. Don’t expect him to be back though.
