The Philadelphia Eagles parted ways with Cullen Jenkins this offseason and even though he’s been a disappointment over the last two seasons, the defensive tackle could certainly still make a solid impact with the right team for the 2013 season. Jenkins is scheduled to meet with the Seattle Seahawks next week and despite what happened over the last two years–the team should certainly consider bringing him on board for 2013.
Jenkins proved to be effective a few years ago when he was a member of the Green Bay Packers, but his numbers were down over the last two seasons as he recorded just 9.5 sacks. However, the argument can be made those numbers would have been much higher with a different team considering how poorly Philadelphia’s defense has performed over the last two seasons.
Jenkins has proven to be effective with the right team before and when looking at Seattle’s situation–there’s no reason why they shouldn’t strongly consider it as they had one of the league’s top defenses in 2012. Everybody knew the Seahawks would emerge with one of the top defenses last year after showing potential in 2011 and they should be even stronger heading into next season after reaching the playoffs this past season.
In fact, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Seattle entered 2013 as one of the top Super Bowl contenders and the addition of Jenkins could improve those odds even more. There’s still plenty of time left before training camp rolls around, but it should be interesting to see how much the Seahawks consider Jenkins–that is if they do at all.
