There’s no telling which wide receivers will be around for the 2013 season when it comes to the St. Louis Rams, but there are plenty of options for them to choose from with the 2013 NFL Draft quickly approaching. One wide receiver the Rams should have on their radar–Tavon Austin of West Virginia.
Austin entered the NFL Combine praising himself as one of the best players from this year’s draft class and as crazy as it sounds–he may end up being right. When looking at his numbers from his time at West Virginia, Austin seems like the type of wide receiver who could have an immediate impact with whatever team is lucky to land him in April and with two first-round picks–St. Louis should strongly consider drafting him.
During his senior season as West Virginia, Austin recorded 114 catches for 1,289 yards with 12 touchdowns and even managed to record 643 rushing yards to go along with three touchdowns on the ground as well. It’s no secret the Rams could certainly use help when it comes to the wide receiver position heading into 2013 and with Austin expected to go in the first round–this almost seems like a no brainer for St. Louis.
The fact that Austin is capable of being a double threat on the ground as well makes this pick even more tempting for the Rams as they look to build off another 7-9 season in 2012. St. Louis has plenty of work on their plates if they have any chance of competing in the NFC West next season–so it should be interesting to see if Austin appears on their radar once April rolls around.
