Without even trying, New York Jets rumors always seem to be swirling about what the future holds for quarterback Tim Tebow as the team was originally expected to part ways with him during the offseason. Now, it appears that may no longer be the case as Tebow may be back with the Jets for the 2013 season.
New York general manager John Idzik discussed on Monday how the team may keep Tebow around for the 2013 season to “increase competition” on the roster. It doesn’t take rocket science to figure out the team isn’t 100 percent sold on Mark Sanchez at quarterback and it seems like Idzik is weighing all his options for the 2013 season.
“Tim, as you know, he’s currently on our roster,” Idzik said. “What we’re doing is we’re trying to increase competition at that position and positions across the board. So we’re going to let the competition play out. We’re going to see who we’re able to bring on board and let it play out this offseason and into training camp. So I think that’ll be healthy for all concerned, including Tim.”
Obviously, whether or not Tebow is on the roster next season could depend on the possibility of other veteran quarterbacks joining the Jets during the offseason. New York failed to figure out a way to use Tebow in the offense last season and even though Idzik is open to increasing the competition at quarterback–the chances of Tebow returning next season still see slim.
