Whether you’re a fan of his team or not, it’s difficult not to have respect for Brian Urlacher as he’ll go down as one of the greatest linebackers of all time when he does decide to call it a career. So when Chicago Bears rumors begin to heat up about the team discussing a new deal to keep Urlacher around for a few more years–it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
It’s no secret that Urlacher has been the heart and soul of Chicago’s defense throughout his 13-year career and the last thing they would want to happen is see him test the open market with the risk of ending up on a different team for the 2013 season. Luckily, Urlacher seems like the type of team player who cares more about staying loyal to his team than money–so the Bears may have the advantage with this situation.
With the way things turned out last season, Urlacher and the Bears will be motivated more than ever to bounce back during the 2013 season as they look to overtake the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North. After looking like one of the best teams in football during the first half of the regular season, Chicago fell apart in the second half and fell just short of the playoffs by finishing with a 10-6 record.
On paper, the Bears will arguably have one of the top teams in the NFL next season and if they can convince Urlacher to return once again–that could give them even more of an advantage.
