Another day and another story in the mini-drama with the New York Jets and cornerback Darrelle Revis. Today, ESPNNewYork.com’s Rich Cimini said that Revis’ people want a resolution to the situation.
To that request, I say tough crap. Who cares what Revis and his stable of people want? They do not, and should not, have any control over what the Jets do and how long it takes to do it.
It should never be up to the player or his people about how an organization goes about deciding what happens when it comes to trades. The Jets have catered to Revis way too many times in the past and it appears as though they don’t like the shoe being on the other foot. Revis has put the Jets through way too much in since the team drafted him and the time to put their foot down is now.
Revis held out for more money as a rookie in 2007, he held out from training camp in 2010 before signing a lucrative contract and now his people have the nerve to ask for a resolution as soon as possible. Revis and his handlers have been nothing but a pain in the butt since day one and having the audacity to ask for more right now is a joke. I’m sorry but time is up on Revis getting what he wants and it’s about time the Jets stood their ground.
The Jets should do what they want, when they want to do it as it pertains to Revis. Moving forward they should do what’s best for the team, not Darrelle Revis, and if that upsets Revis and his people, who cares. For the first time in his career, the Jets hold all the cards with Revis and its bothering Revis’ people. Too bad, now you know what you’ve put the Jets through for the past six years.
If trading Revis makes sense tomorrow, then do it. If it the Jets feel like it makes more sense to trade him at a later date, then do that. Heck, even if they want to keep him for another year, do that, but whatever they choose to do, they need to make sure it’s in the best interest of the team and not Darrelle Revis.
At some point enough is enough, and the New York Jets are at the point where they need to shout ‘enough!’. They hold all the cards with Darrelle Revis and they should only show them when they’re ready.
