Ozzie Newsome apparently did not really want to make the move to send Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers. Newsome has been one of the best GMs in the league for some time, so his judgment should not be questioned on most matters. I have written that the Baltimore Ravens will regret trading Boldin. The main reason they will regret it is because they have now made the San Francisco 49ers one of the strongest rosters in the league. Boldin will make their passing attack one of the best in the league.
“Managing and assembling your roster is difficult and among the most important things we do,” Newsome said. “It is not always pleasant, and in the case of Anquan, it is unpleasant. We know he can still play at a high level. What he has done in his three seasons with us goes well beyond the numbers, and his numbers are very good. He fit in as a Raven from Day One.”
I hear where Newsome is coming from, but if you replayed the last Super Bowl with Boldin on the other team, then it would have been a different result. That is the main reason why it was a bad trade; if they had gotten similar value from a non-contender, then that would be much more defensible.
