It has been a huge day in the Baltimore Ravens orginization. After they signed Joe Flacco just a few weeks ago, the Ravens made some big roster moves on the opening day of the 2013 Free Agency period.
The Ravens defense suffered a big blow for the first portion of the day. News broke that Paul Kruger would be leaving Baltimore to be the newest member of the Cleveland Browns. This was an expected move, but there was another in particular that was a bit surprising. Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe decided not to take the Ravens’ offer and signed with Miami to be the newest member of the Miami Dolphins. They offered him a five-year, $35 million dollar deal and he jumped.
Just around 7:30 on Tuesday, the Ravens officially aquired a big-time pass rusher Chris Canty. Canty posted a photo on Twitter of his newly-signed contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
This move let Ravens fans all across the state of Maryland breathe a bit easier after they had previously lost two defensive stars. He was the bright signing that many fans were looking for.
Canty fits the mold perfectly and will surely “Play Like a Raven”. The move is a bit surprising considering that he is an interior lineman, but general manager Ozzie Newsome has a track record of knowing what he is doing when it comes to the Ravens defense.
There were reports earlier in the day that the Ravens would possibly be interested former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end James Harrison and that could still happen. With the money being freed up after Ellerbe wasn’t signed, look for the Ravens to have many more signings.
