A couple of years ago, Rashard Mendenhall was considered one of the most dangerous running backs in the NFL before he suffered a torn ACL at the end of the 2011 season. Unfortunately, an Achilles’ injury forced Mendenhall to appear in just six games for the Pittsburgh Steelers while rushing for 181 yards and even though he still has a long way to go when it comes to returning to his old dominant self–one of the top Denver Broncos rumors this week involves the team possibly being the favorite to land the running back in free agency.
Obviously, Mendenhall should be thrilled with the idea of a team like the Broncos being interested with bringing him on board for the 2013 season considering they will most likely be one of the top teams in the AFC again. Last year, Denver emerged as one of the biggest surprises in the NFL during Peyton Manning’s first year under center as they finished with the best record in the AFC and even ended the regular season on an 11-game winning streak.
After an early exit from the playoffs–the Broncos will be even more anxious to bounce back stronger in 2013.
As long as Manning stays healthy, there’s every reason in the world to think the Broncos will be one of the top teams again next year and if Mendenhall can return to his old dominant form–it could make them even more dangerous. Keep in mind Mendenhall is a player who rushed for 3,309 yards and 29 touchdowns from 2009-11–so let’s see if the Broncos do end up bringing him on board next season.
