With NFL free agency underway, pieces of the puzzle are beginning to fall in place for teams across the league. The Minnesota Vikings have done more subtracting than adding at this point, but obviously there’s plenty of time to go.
Mike Wallace will not be signing with the Vikings, so fans can finally move on from those rumors. On the positive side though, it seems likely the team will pursue a top-tier wide receiver. Players like Danny Amendola and Greg Jennings keep coming up in free agent talks, so fans should be encouraged that Minnesota is trying to make a move.
Frankly, the team has to make some sort of offensive move in free agency after trading away Percy Harvin.
Another area the team is trying to improve, is the backup quarterback position. The latest buzz surrounding this spot includes Matt Cassel. Now, Cassel has yet to be released by the Kansas City Chiefs, but that move is expected. The Vikings could and should pursue him if in fact he is released.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is now officially on the open market, so add him to the list of possible candidates for the backup QB spot.
– The Vikings are in talks with tight end John Carlson to restructure his five-year/$25 million dollar that he signed last year.
– OT Phil Loadholt has signed a multi-year deal to stay in Minnesota.
– Crazy rumor of the day – the Vikings are in talks to trade for Larry Fitzgerald. Take that one for what it is, highly unlikely and probably untrue, but it has been floating around the internet.
