The Washington Redskins Did Not Want to Let DeAngelo Hall Go, But Had To

The Washington Redskins did not want to let DeAngelo Hall go, and if he can’t get a better contract somewhere else, then he might come back to the Skins on a reduced contract. He was even willing to take a pay cut, but the Skins simply needed the cap room.

“I talked to a player that has played extremely hard for us the last couple of years and I had to tell him he was released today,” head coach Mike Shanahan said. “And that guy has really played extremely hard for us, and that’s DeAngelo Hall.”

Hall rounded into form at the end of last year, and helped the Redskins win the NFC East. He was the ultimate team player and it’s a shame he won’t be around for the ride next year.

“He’s given everything I’ve asked him to give. He’s gotten better each year,” Shanahan said. “He’s done the little things the right way and when you have to tell somebody that they’re not going to be on your football team, it’s a little hard, especially when your plan was to take care of the guys that took care of you.”

The cap penalties levied against the Skins hardly seem fair, but Shanahan did just a fine job assembling the roster last year. I’m inclined to trust him this offseason even if as a fan I try to temper my expectations.
