Both of these young men went to Texas Tech and both play slot receiver. But the comparisons do not end there; they have now both been a part of the New England Patriots. Wes Welker will now be moving on to play with Tom Brady’s historical rival, the great Peyton Manning. None of the Welker comparisons are new to Danny Amendola though.
“As far as comparisons to Wes, I’ve been hearing it for a long time,” Amendola said at his Friday press conference. “I watched him play the whole time — he’s a great player, he’s had a number of Pro Bowls and done a lot of good things to help the Patriots win. One of my main goals is to fill my role and try to do what I can to now help the Patriots win as well.”
Amendola will be happy to be catching passes from Tom Brady though, and some have predicted that he will thrive as similarly as Welker did when he first arrived in Foxborough.
“I believe that, deep down at heart,” Amendola said. “I’m a football player.”
Well, congratulations should go to both Amendola and Welker; both are on Super Bowl contenders next year. Not a bad comparison to be made for either wide receiver. Circle your calendars for Welker’s return next season.
