Now that Kevin Kolb is officially out of the picture, there are plenty of Arizona Cardinals rumors surrounding who the team will use at quarterback for the 2013 season. One name that may be the favorite at this point in the offseason–Drew Stanton.
As crazy as it sounds, Stanton may have the advantage when it comes to winning the starting role thanks to his relationship with new head coach Bruce Arians. The Cardinals coach received heavy praise for the work he did last year with the Indianapolis Colts and Stanton did play a role in helping Andrew Luck learn the NFL ways as a rookie last season–so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Arians decided to give him a shot at the starting job.
Plus, when looking at the rest of the quarterbacks on Arizona’s roster–no other player really sticks out enough to make a strong case. The Cardinals should still strongly consider selecting a quarterback in the 2013 NFL Draft, but they’ll most likely go with a veteran quarterback as the starter for the 2013 season.
Stanton has been waiting for an opportunity to prove himself at quarterback and it seems like he may finally earn that shot next season. Whether or not Stanton will succeed at quarterback is a different story, but at least he should be able to benefit from having one of the best wide receivers the NFL has to offer in Larry Fitzgerald as the wideout looks to bounce back from a disappointing 2012 season.
