ESPN Puts the Seattle Seahawks at the Top of Their 2013 Power Rankings
It is starting to look like the road to Super Bowl XLVIII will be going through the NFC West. The Seattle Seahawks were named the No. 1 team in the NFL by ESPN, closely followed by the San Francisco 49er’s and the Denver Broncos.
The Seahawks weren’t only named number one in ESPN’s power rankings, but they were also named the No. 4 team in the country by the NFL, who have the 49er’s at No. 1, and then both the New England Patriots and the Broncos ahead of the Seahawks.
The moves made by the Seahawks this off-season and in the previous off-season have taken this Seattle franchise from being one of the laughing stocks of the NFL, to possibly the most feared team in the football.
The Seahawks have a defense that can cause turnovers and hold even the best offenses under 20 points. They have one of the best running games in the NFL, and now with the addition of Percy Harvin, they will be even more dynamic on offense.
However, the Seahawks aren’t alone in the hunt for a Super Bowl. Their division rival 49er’s are also making a strong push to return to the Super Bowl. Their recent acquisition of Anquan Boldin is going to help them against Seattle’s aggressive defensive backs. San Francisco’s high rankings shows that this 49er’s team is not going to quietly step aside for the Seahawks.
The Seahawks, the 49er’s and even the rising St. Louis Rams will all be fighting for the top spot in the NFC West. This may be the best division in football — you have two teams that are Super Bowl favorites, and another in the Rams that are starting to put together a playoff team.
We will have to wait a while to see the what happens this season, but one thing is for sure: the NFC West will be a battle all season long.
