Should the Oakland Raiders Trade RB Darren McFadden?
The Oakland Raiders have plenty of questions to answer this offseason as they look to bounce back from last year’s disappointing 4-12 record, but one of the more interesting areas may be whether or not they should consider trading running back Darren McFadden.
When healthy, McFadden has proven to be one of the most dangerous running backs in the game as he’s capable of putting up just as much numbers in the passing game as on the ground, but that’s been the main issue for him throughout his career–his health. In five seasons, McFadden has yet to play all 16 games in a single year and is coming off a 2012 season in which he recorded just 707 rushing yards to go along with two touchdowns.
For a running back with plenty of potential when he was selected in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft–these numbers are unacceptable for a player like McFadden.
The running back is entering the final season of his six-year deal with Oakland and with his lack of production over the years, it may be in the team’s best interest to consider a trade now before the 2013 season before McFadden possibly hits free agency next year. If the Raiders don’t have plans to keep McFadden around beyond the 2013 season, it would be beneficial to at least get a draft pick or two from him now instead of letting him hit the open market without anything in return.
