Elvis Dumervil: It’s Time to Grow Up and Make a Decision
Welcome back to today’s episode of “Where Will Elvis Dumervil Play Football in 2013″. There is an interesting twist in this never ending saga that should favor the Denver Broncos, but up until now nothing has gone the way it should, so just beware.
The Baltimore Ravens have made an offer to Dumervil, and according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, it is less than what the Broncos offered on Monday night. To be completely correct, the money offered early by the Ravens in the contract is less than what the Broncos have offered.
If that’s true and there’s no reason to believe it is not, the question has to be asked: Why is this even a decision for Dumervil? Ok so his feelings are hurt because the Broncos asked him to take less money, and then cut him after the fax fiasco. By the way, the whole thing with the fax was either his or his agent’s fault for waiting until after the deadline to make a decision, so if he’s holding that against the Broncos then he is really misguided. It’s time to grow up and be a man, Elvis!
The only decision that makes any sense is to return to the Broncos, its more money and you have a chance to win. Players come and go for two reasons, money and the chance to win a championship. The Ravens are offering Dumervil less money to be on a team that might go 8-8. His other choice is to take the Broncos offer, make more money and have a chance to win a Super Bowl. I ask again, why is this a decision?
I understand that winning a championship is not as important as the money to some players and if the Ravens were offering Dumervil more money, then I would understand if he took it. However if he takes their offer for less money to play on a bad team, then maybe the Broncos don’t want him anyway.
In the meantime, the Broncos did host John Abraham and Dwight Freeney on Thursday but both left town without being offered a contract. The Broncos have made it clear that bringing Dumervil back is the first option and the fact that they did not sign either Abraham or Freeney says that they believe the possibility still exists for a happy ending. If Dumervil does leave, however, the Broncos will quickly be on the phone with either Abraham or Freeney.
The ball is in your court Dumervil, if you want to win and make more money then the Broncos are the easy choice. If you want to pout and make some kind of point, then sign with the Ravens. Just don’t come crying to me when the Ravens are 3-6! It’s time to grow up and make a decision.
