After narrowing it down to the two teams, Dumervil has officially chosen the Ravens which is ironic considering he originally was expected to return to the Broncos for the 2013 season. Denver originally convinced Dumervil to take a pay cut for the 2013 season, but some miscommunication with paperwork forced the organization to part ways with their star defensive player and while it seemed like there would be a chance for him to return–it looks like the Broncos will have to play without him next season.
The Broncos had every reason in the world to want Dumervil to take a pay cut considering he was scheduled to make $12 million in base salary next season, but this move has to hurt with all of the moves they’ve been making this offseason to make sure they’re one of the top contenders in the AFC once again in 2013. The fact that Dumervil recorded six forced fumbles alone in 2012 and 20.5 sacks over the last two seasons shows how valuable he was to this defense and a team like Baltimore could certainly use his talent when looking at all of the players they’ve already lost to free agency.
On the bright side, at least Dumervil is going to a contender after the Ravens came out on top as Super Bowl Champions last season after making an unexpected playoff run.
