For a team that had already lost plenty of players due to free agency for the 2013 season, it’s safe to say the Baltimore Ravens needed Elvis Dumervil more than he needed them after his bizarre release from the Denver Broncos due to some mishandling of paperwork while trying to reconstruct a new contract. Now, the question that should be on the back of the mind’s of the Broncos heading into 2013–will they regret losing Dumervil?
While the Broncos’ defense will most likely be just fine without their former defensive star, there’s a good chance they will regret it down the road considering how much of an impact he’s made for the team over the last two seasons. Not only did Dumervil force six fumbles last season, but he managed to record 20.5 sacks over the last two seasons in Denver.
Sure, the price to bring Dumervil back may have been hefty, but the Broncos did convince him to take a pay cut before the miscommunication took place prior to his release–which means this whole problem could have been avoided from the start. Dumervile was one of the main reasons why Denver had one of the league’s top defenses last year and even thought they will most likely rank near the top of the league once again–there’s no question they would have liked to have him back.
Instead, Dumervil be suiting up for the defending champions–so let’s hope this move doesn’t come back to haunt them down the road.
