The offseason has seen a lot of talk about whether the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should trade for Darrelle Revis. Tampa started 6-4 in 2012 before going on a five-game losing streak. It is obvious to me at least that Tampa Bay must make this move to improve the worst pass defense in NFL from a year ago. The Buccaneers gave up nearly 300 yards a game through the air and even though the team was the best in the league against the run, the NFL is a passing league these days. Revis would be an addition that may allow the Buccaneers to make the playoffs next season.
Tampa has enough weapons on offense with Josh Freeman and Doug Martin to keep up scoring with a lot of teams, but if the Buccaneers don’t get some secondary help, it won’t do any good. That is where Revis comes in and the ability he has. Tampa Bay should seriously consider giving up their second and third round picks this season along with maybe another third round pick in 2014 to get Revis.
I think that the Buccaneers are one big secondary piece away from making the playoffs and that piece must be Revis. Tampa Bay has already signed safety Dashon Goldson in free agency and has a ton of cap space to work with. The time has come for the team to pull the trigger on this trade and get Revis to the Buccaneers. I’m sure the other teams in the NFC South don’t want to see that happen because if it does, I think Tampa finishes at least 9-7 and in second place next season.
