New York Jets: How Many Quarterbacks Can Be Expected For Training Camp?

Similar to The Brady Bunch Show, when the show opens with the grid of the family all look in to Mike Brady, all four (at least for now) quarterbacks are looking into Rex Ryan for his decision come August.

Coach Ryan has come out publicly in saying that the quarterback position is “wide open” for the New York Jets. This means that, for now, the quarterback competition will be between Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow, Greg McElroy, and David Garrard.

The Jets have also been rumored to pick up another quarterback in free agency. This appears to be less likely now that Kevin Kolb is off the market, signing a deal with the Buffalo Bills, but there are still some potential quarterback candidates out there.

In addition, the Jets have said that they would like to come away from the draft with a quarterback. Now, this year’s quarterback class isn’t great, but nonetheless, they still want to bring in a quarterback who will be able to compete for that starting spot. Whether it be Mike Glennon, Matt Barkley, or Geno Smith, who knows.

With all this being said, how many quarterbacks can we expect during training camp? There are potentially six quarterbacks all gunning for the opportunity to be the starting quarterback. It is crazy to think that that number of quarterbacks will be able to compete for a starting spot during preseason.

As a fan, you would like to see them draft a young talent who could make some noise, but for them to name a rookie the starter isn’t likely. What’s likely is for the team to conduct a tryout in order to say, yet again, that Sanchez is “looking better than last year”, and “he’s our quarterback.” Oh brother.
