Nnamdi Asomugha Worth the Low Risk For San Francisco 49ers

After falling just short of winning the Super Bowl last year, the San Francisco 49ers have kept themselves busy this offseason when it comes to making sure they bounce back better than ever in 2013. The team has already made numerous key additions (especially Anquan Boldin) and now–they hope Nnamdi Asomugha turns out to be one of the biggest steals of the offseason as well.

Asomugha spent the past two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, but he struggled to fit in their system and after the two sides failed to reach an agreement on a restructured deal this offseason–the cornerback ended up being released. By keeping Asomugha on board, the Eagles would have been forced to pay him $15 million for the 2013 season and with the way he struggled over the last two seasons–it was almost a no brainer for them to part ways.

Now, San Francisco hopes Asomugha will be a better fit for their defense as he looks to return to his dominant level from a few years ago. With the type of money the 49ers are paying him, this could end up being a major steal for the 49ers, but at least one thing is clear–which is he’s certainly worth the low risk.
