Vince Young says he just wants another opportunity to play, well he might get one from the Seattle Seahawks.
Rumors are swirling that the Seahawks are at least interested in bringing in Young for a workout. After sitting out basically the entire 2012 season, Young will be looking to make his return to the NFL this season.
I did get a chance to watch his interview on First Take, and he did genuinely seem like a guy who’s matured. Talk is certainly cheap, but Young came across as sincere. He’s openly admitting that he was immature, and he’s apologized to his former coach Jeff Fisher. He admits that he made mistakes in his past, and now he just wants a second chance.
But should the Seahawks give him one?
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with bringing in the guy for a workout. Why not see what he has left? He reportedly looked good at the Texas pro day a few weeks back, and he clearly hasn’t let himself go. Young said that he partook in the pro day to make it clear to teams that he hasn’t ‘been sitting on the couch.’
Seattle is also rumored to be interested in Tyler Thigpen for their vacant backup role, and it seems like he’s the favorite at this time.
As far as Young is concerned, he’ still only 29, and I think he deserves a second chance. He’s a proven winner, that should at least be a backup in the NFL. He’ll come cheap to whoever signs him, and I think the Seahawks should at least bring him in for a visit.
The smart money is that the team will go with Thigpen, but for now, Young remains in the conversation.
