New England Patriots’ 2013 Preseason Opponents Released
The New England Patriots 2013 preseason schedule has been released, and the Patriots will play all four of their preseason games against NFC opponents. The Patriots will open up on the road at Lincoln Financial Field to play the Philadelphia Eagles, in what will be Chip Kelly’s first game coaching the Eagles, albeit an exhibition game.
In that game, the Patriots will go up against former teammate and safety Patrick Chung, who spent the first four seasons of his career in New England. Chung signed a three year, $10 million contract in the off-season that includes $4.25 million guaranteed over 2013 and 2014.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will visit Gillette Stadium in a nationally televised game on Fox in the Patriots’ second preseason game. Patriots’ cornerback Aqib Talib will face-off against his former team for the first time since being acquired at the trade deadline last season in exchange for a fourth round pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
The Patriots will then travel to Ford Field to play the Detroit Lions for their third preseason contest. This will be the preseason game to keep an eye out on as this is the game that often features projected starters playing through the third quarter.
Then, for the eighth straight preseason the Patriots will square off against their bitter NFC rivals, the New York Giants, at Gillette Stadium. This is an intriguing preseason match-up as it always has the potential to be a Super Bowl preview. The Patriots and Giants squared off in the 2007 and 2011 Super Bowl, with the Giants winning each contest by a narrow margin.
