2013 NFL Draft: Dallas Day Holds Interesting Prospects for Dallas Cowboys

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys are holding their annual Dallas Day today, a workout for local college players who are trying to get drafted or make an NFL roster this offseason. Make no mistake though; there are some real interesting players who may get drafted pretty high in the 2013 NFL Draft attending the workouts, so the turnout is good for the Cowboys.

A few of the more well-known name attending Dallas Day are SMU defensive end Margus Hunt, Texas A&M’s defensive end Damontre Moore, as well as wide receivers Josh Boyce from TCU and Marquise Goodwin from Texas. That is a nice group of players the Cowboys will get a good look at although it’s not known if they will all workout of if they are attending to talk with the Cowboys.

Hunt is one of the more interesting names on the list since he’s a projected first of second round pick, who boasts a ton of potential. Hunt is a mammoth of a man with outstanding strength but he’s also very raw with limited football experience. The Cowboys could use a defensive end but he could be too much of a project so it will be good to get another look at him.

The same goes for Moore, who has been slipping on draft boards because of his subpar combine workout. However, he does possess the athletic ability and speed to be a very good pass rusher, he lacks in other areas and scouts are wary of him. Again, getting another change to see these prospects up close can help the team get a better sense of the player. Wide receivers Boyce and Goodwin might also make interesting options for the Cowboys in the mid-rounds.

There are plenty of other players attending the workout today and you never know which ones will slip through the cracks and will make an impact. Over the years the Cowboys have scooped up good players from the Dallas Day workouts and the team can only hope the trend continues. Patrick Crayton, Jacques Reeves, Phillip Tanner, Lance Dunbar and Cole Beasley have all attended the workouts in recent years and all have had roles with the Cowboys.

Dallas Day is full of interesting prospects for the Cowboys and it usually brings a few nice surprises to the roster throughout the season.
