With the 2013 NFL Draft quickly approaching, the Houston Texans have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to the 27th pick–both on offense and defense. Despite their second-half collapse in the 2012 regular season, the argument can be made that the Texans were one of the top overall teams in the first half–which is why expectations should be high heading into the 2013 season.
However, if there’s any positon they need to focus on the most heading into the draft, it would be the wide receiver position.
Sure, the team already has one of the league’s top wide receivers in football in Andre Johnson, but they still need another effective playmaker to take the pressure off him next season. There’s no way Johnson can single-handedly carry the passing game on his shoulders alone and another weapon in the passing game could be extremely beneficial on Johnson’s end.
This year’s draft class is filled with plenty of talented wide receivers for Houston to choose from and there’s a good chance one of them could even develop into a solid No. 2 wideout. From Tavon Austin to Keenan Allen, the Texans hope to have numerous options when their team comes up on the clock at No. 27.
There’s no reason why the Texans shouldn’t be one of the top teams in the AFC once again, but if they want to make sure that happens and avoid a collapse similar to last year–they need to strongly consider selecting a wide receiver at No. 27.
