Various outlets such as Tony Lombardi from Russellstreetreport.com , Adam Schefter of ESPN and Bob Labbe of the Madison Weekly News have reported that former linebacker of the Oakland Raiders Rolando McClain is on track to signing with the Baltimore Ravens if they can iron out a deal later today.
If the deal goes through, it would certainly be a surprising move by the Ravens given the fact that the NFL Draft is less than a month away.
This could speak to a multitude of things coming up for this draft. Either they doubt linebackers in this draft such as Manti Teo, Arthur Brown and Kevin Minter may be on the board by the time they get to number 32, or they are not as high on the incoming draft class and feel like the McClain can be accumulated into the system faster than any other young prospect can at this point and time.
A few days ago, I wrote an article about why it may be wise for the Ravens to go in another direction due to the off-field troubles the veteran linebacker has had throughout his entire career. If the Ravens do go through with this deal, it will say that the organization has full confidence that the veteran leadership in the locker room is strong enough to keep McClain in line despite Ray Lewis, Ed Reed and Anquan Boldin departing earlier this offseason.
More news on the story as it breaks during the day.
