After finishing with the No. 1 seed in the AFC during the regular season in 2012, expectations are even higher for the Denver Broncos heading into the 2013 season now that they have former New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker on board. Welker has been considered one of the league’s top wide receivers over the last couple of years considering how dangerous he is in the slot and on Wednesday–the wideout helped Broncos fans get even more excited by working out with Peyton Manning down at Duke.
Just like last year, Manning worked out at Duke on Wednesday with Welker, Eric Decker, and Demaryius Thomas to help develop chemistry for the 2013 season. Manning’s former quarterback coach, David Cutcliffe, at Tennessee currently coaches at Duke and is helping Manning once again as he looks to put himself in MVP contention once again in 2013.
With the type of weapons he has in the passing game, there’s no reason why Manning shouldn’t be in for another MVP-type season next year as the Broncos could arguably turn out even more dangerous than before. It was one thing to have Decker and Thomas as weapons, but the fact that Manning received a third dangerous weapon in Welker as well makes Denver even more dangerous as a team.
Even if it is just offseason workouts, there’s every reason in the world for fans to be excited about the connection Manning and Welker hope to establish next season–especially after Wednesday.
