Seattle Seahawks Sign Antoine Winfield
Earl Thomas tweeted last night wondering about his Seattle Seahawks signing Antoine Winfield and becoming like a video game by getting players they want. Well, his wait has ended and Winfield now is a member of the Seahawks. Reports indicate that Winfield has signed a one year contract for $3 million.
Some people can say that Winfield is old and that he is no longer an elite player. Sure, that’s fine. But is that why he was a great cornerback last year? Somehow, that must also be a reason he is going to fall off the cliff in 2013 and become terrible?
The fact of the matter is that Winfield is still one of the better corners in the NFL. Just because he isn’t going to start over Brandon Browner or Richard Sherman doesn’t mean that he isn’t going to be a great and key player for the Seahawks next season.
The Seahawks have two Pro Bowl safety players in Kam Chancellor and Thomas. They also have Sherman, Browner and Winfield at cornerback. In addition, they also have, in my opinion, the best number four corner in the league in Walter Thurmond III. Personally, Thumond would be the number one corner on a few teams and definitely a starter for most. He’s that good. His only knock has been his ability to stay healthy.
The rich get richer and the Seahawks are definitely stocked and loaded going into next season. No awards are handed out for being paper champions so they need to prove it on the field. With signings like Winfield though, it is becoming easier and easier to predict the Seahawks to the Super Bowl.
