Branden Albert Trade Would Get Kansas City Chiefs Needed Extra Picks

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

There has been a lot of talk ever since the Kansas City Chiefs put the franchise tag on Branden Albert about what the team would do with him. Everyone has an opinion about whether the Chiefs will keep Albert or will trade him away to draft Luke Joeckel with the top pick. It would be smart for the team to trade Albert if they are going to take Joeckel but they better get a huge package for him.

Albert is probably worth someone’s first round pick, or at least two second-round picks, and I bet the team has got a ton of calls about what it will take. Kansas City is in a great position to make a major change in their fortunes. Kansas City was just 2-14 last season with Albert at left tackle so why not trade him away, get a new left tackle and more picks?

It is so obvious that it will probably happen. You take Joeckel with the No. 1 pick and plug him in to be the left tackle for the next decade and maybe get into the first round again to pick up defensive line help. Kansas City could find themselves becoming a team that wins five or six games next season after adding Alex Smith at quarterback and likely Joeckel. The offense is in good shape and if the Chiefs can use an Albert trade to get multiple picks to use on defense, anything is possible. There may be more optimism with the Chiefs than what was there just a couple months ago. It is a good time for the Chiefs possibly.
