With the 2013 NFL Draft set to take place next week, the Philadelphia Eagles are one of those teams that could go one of numerous directions as they hold on to the No. 4 pick following last year’s disappointing 4-12 record. Normally, the Eagles have been the type of team that tends to focus on defense early on in the draft, but there’s a good chance they could go with an offensive lineman in the first round this year–such as Lane Johnson out of Oklahoma.
In fact, Johnson seems confident enough that Philadelphia will take him at No. 4 and as crazy as it sounds–it wouldn’t be a surprise if this ended up happening. When looking at how things have played out over the last couple of seasons, it’s clear the offensive line has been a major weakness for the Eagles and if Michael Vick is going to receive any sort of protection in 2013–the team will need to figure out a way to improve their line before next season.
One of the main reasons why Philadelphia struggled so much last season was due to their lack of protection at quarterback and the last thing they need to see happen is Vick miss any time away from the football field. Johnson is already being considered one of the top prospects this year capable of making an immediate impact as a rookie–so the Eagles should strongly consider taking the Oklahoma star if he is available at No. 4.
