2013 NFL Draft: Should the Cleveland Browns Consider EJ Manuel at No. 6?

The 2013 NFL Draft is officially one week away and with the No. 6 picks–nobody is 100 percent sure what to expect from the Cleveland Browns yet considering they could easily go in a few different directions. As of now, all signs point to the Browns focusing on a defensive player with their first-round pick, but with all of the uncertainty at the quarterback position–the team may want to consider selecting a quarterback like Florida State‘s EJ Manuel.

Cleveland made a surprise decision last year when they invested one of their first-round picks on Brandon Weeden and while the job is his to lose heading into his second season–there’s still plenty of questions surrounding whether or not he has what it takes to be the starter in the long run. Weeden showed potential at times during his rookie season and he certainly does deserve another shot to prove himself in 2013 considering the Browns didn’t have the best of weapons last year, but the last thing the team wants to see happen is he ends up being a bust.

Plus, with the amount of talented quarterbacks from this year’s class, the last thing Cleveland wants to see happen is they miss out on the next big thing. Manuel has received plenty of praise over the last couple of weeks from scouts and while he still has a few areas in need of improvement, the potential is certainly there for him at the NFL level.

It will certainly be interesting to see what the Browns end up doing in the first around and while defense may be a top priority, it will be hard for them to pass on a quarterback as talented as Manuel if he’s available at No. 6.
