Rant Sports 2013 NFL Mock Draft: San Francisco 49ers Select DeAndre Hopkins at No. 31

Towards the end of the 2012 season the San Francisco 49ers lost WRs  Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams to ACL injuries. Their status remains uncertain for the beginning of the 2013 season. Randy Moss has not been clear about his desire to return and beyond that the team has Michael Crabtree. Crabtree has worked his way into becoming the teams #1 receiver, but everything beyond him is a serious question mark. The 49ers do have solid all around team depth and multiple draft picks to address the very few holes that they currently have on the roster.  I have them addressing their biggest need in the 1st round.

DeAndre Hopkins produced one of the best receiving seasons statistically in ACC history. In 13 games as a junior for the Clemson Tigers, Hopkins caught 82 passes for 1,405 yards and 18 touchdowns. The 18 scores where a school record. His production earned him a First Team All ACC nomination. He was far from a one year wonder for Clemson as he set school career records in yards (3020) and touchdowns (27).

When researching Hopkins, I am at a loss as to why he was available for the 31st selection. He is a natural at the position with tremendous focus and  superior hands. At the combine Hopkins ran a respectable 4.51 in the 40 with a 9ft. 7inch broad jump. He is not a burner and not as big as you would like but, Hopkins is a football player. Don’t be surprised if Crabtree’s time as the 49ers #1 receiver is shortened by Hopkins.
