10 Players Who Can Help the San Diego Chargers Make the NFL Playoffs

The San Diego Chargers didn’t make the NFL Playoffs last season mostly due to low stats by some of their most talented players. Phillip Rivers didn’t have as prolific of a season as many had hoped, but he still had a decent year. Also, they lost five games by one touchdown or less. The Chargers' season could have been completely different with just a little luck.

What really kept the Chargers out of playoffs last season were the struggles of their run game. Not once all season did any player rush for more than 100 yards in a game. It’s impossible to win in the NFL if you do not have a run game. Even elite quarterbacks like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have bad games and need their running backs to produce.

Special teams and defense need to step up as well. San Diego had only two touchdowns all season from kickoff and punt returns. The Chargers finished with fourteen interceptions, but could have had more with the talent of their defensive backs. Scoring without the offense on the field would really help the Chargers in a playoff push this upcoming season.

The Chargers have the talent and skill level to make it to the playoffs this year. If their top players play to their potential, they will find themselves finally back into the playoffs. They even might split the series with Manning and the Denver Broncos.

Here’s a list of the top ten players that could help the Chargers make the playoffs.

Antonio Gates didn’t have as prolific of a season last year as he has in the past. If he can get back to playing his game, expect them to make the playoffs.

No. 3 - Eric Weddle

Weddle led the team in tackles and will have to have a big 2013 if the Chargers' defense is to compete with Peyton Manning and the Broncos' offense.

No. 2 - Ryan Mathews

Philip Rivers won’t be able to pass unless Mathews starts breaking a few tackles. He didn't rush for over 100 yards in any game last season.

No. 1 - Philip Rivers

Rivers

Rivers is the best player on this team and has to be a leader once again this season if San Diego is to make the playoffs.
