Marvin Lewis ‘Optimistic’ that Andre Smith Will Re-Sign Before the Draft
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was interviewed on the NFL Network’s show ‘Around The League’ on Tuesday afternoon, where he answered a lot of draft questions such as who the Bengals intend to select with the 21st pick and if the Bengals intend to move up the draft in order to select someone.
One particular question stood out as the most important clue regarding the Bengals’ pick number 21: “You seemed to imply earlier today (Tuesday) … that there’s a chance that Andre Smith gets signed by Thursday. Did I read that right?”
The news that the Bengals are optimistic of a signing comes as a breath of fresh air to fans and staff alike because as the draft draws nearer, the fans are eager for Smith to re-sign with the Bengals, lest the team be forced to use their firs-round draft pick on an offensive tackle when there are much greater needs.
Marvin said during the interview that “Andre would like to get it done, he’d like to be here and that’s a positive in our favor. We just have to get both sides to agree on a contract that both sides are happy with … We want it done as quick as it can be done and get him in here and with his teammates.”
It’s still vague at the moment whether they will reach an agreement with Smith before Thursday or not but needless to say, this really can be counted as good news.
