The New Orleans Saints took a huge step backward in 2012 after the Bountygate scandal and their defense was a huge concern. That unit ranked in the cellar of the NFL last year and the Saints’ secondary was especially awful and has been ever since Darren Sharper departed in 2010. That should change at least somewhat in 2013 with the pick of Kenny Vaccaro, the safety out of Texas, with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Vaccaro isn’t great at any one element of his game, but he’s not bad at any aspect either. He should make an immediate impact for the Saints from day one. That’s not to suggest that New Orleans’ defense will be a top-10 unit in 2013, but it certainly won’t be dead last. If Vaccaro can stay healthy, he should have a great career with the Saints in the Big Easy.
