Being the most dynamic play maker in the 2013 NFL Draft has its perks and makes every NFL team want to possibly draft you on their team, if they need a wide receiver, including the New York Jets. West Virginia Mountaineers wide receiver Tavon Austin has been on Rex Ryan and the Jets’ radar for this year’s draft.
It would be great if the Jets could possibly draft Austin in this year’s draft with either of their 9th or 13th pick in the 1st round. According to Jenny Vrentas of the Star Ledger, Jets Ryan showed particular interest. “(Ryan) said he had a plan for me. I talked to the offensive coordinator (Marty Mornhinweg), and they said they like players like me who can bring big-play ability there,” Austin told the Star-Ledger on Thursday.
Well, who would have ever thought that defensive minded Ryan would be leading into the draft thinking offense first possibly? Having Austin on the Jets roster would definitely be an upgrade with the young receiving core they have now, including Royce Adams, Emmanuel Arceneaux, Joe Collins, Clyde Gates and Vidal Hazelton (do you know these guys?). Austin would open the running game for the Jets, since they like the ground and pound type of offense. Mark Sanchez is used best when he has a run option, then he is able to get to his receiving options with accuracy.
The great thing about the NFL Draft is you never know what may happen, which team will draft you and I’m pretty sure Jets nation would love to have a receiver of Austin’s capability with “Ganggreen Nation.”
