The Jacksonville Jaguars received the news they didn’t want to hear on Tuesday when they found out wide receiver Justin Blackmon would be suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season after violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first incident Blackmon has been involved with and even though teams have decided to part ways with players in the past that have struggled to stay out of trouble–the Jaguars made it clear they have no intention of parting ways with their wide receiver.
There was a reason why the Jaguars were willing to trade up in last year’s draft to select Blackmon and the last thing they want to do is just give up on him after one season. Blackmon was arguably the most talented wide receiver with the most potential during last year’s draft and Jacksonville hopes he can eventually develop into one of the league’s top wide receivers.
Blackmon may have a history of getting into trouble, but there’s still plenty of time for him to turn things around before it’s too late. Obviously, the Jaguars still believe Blackmon can turn things around if they’re still willing to give him another shot, but he better learn to change his ways pretty quick.
Otherwise–Blackmon could be looking to join a new team if Jacksonville decides down the road he’s not worth the trouble and ends up parting ways with the troubled wide receiver.
