Last season, the Minnesota Vikings made a surprise playoff run and even though they lost in the Wild Card round to the Green Bay Packers–expectations will be high once again for the team heading into the 2013 season. The Vikings have made plenty of interesting moves during the offseason to make sure they’re contenders in the NFC once again, but the main question may be what to expect from quarterback Christian Ponder.
The former first-round pick is heading into his third season with Minnesota, but if last season is any indication–he still has plenty of areas in need of work if he’s ever going to gain 100 percent trust in their quarterback. The fact that Ponder failed to break the 3,000-yard passing mark last year despite playing in all 16 games is a major reason for concern and he’s going to need to figure out a way to improve those numbers in 2013 if Minnesota is going to have any chance at making another playoff run.
Now that’s he’s got two seasons of experience under his belt, this year could be a make or break season for Ponder when it comes to being the team’s quarterback of the future. Minnesota has made some key additions to the offense (especially Greg Jennings) along with having arguably the league’s top running back in Adrian Peterson–so it’s time for Ponder to prove that he deserves to be the franchise quarterback for the organization with a strong 2013 season.
