Eric Reid Will Pay Off For San Francisco 49ers

(Jerry Lai/USA Today Sports)

Last season, the San Francisco 49ers contained one of the top overall teams in football as they fell just short of winning the Super Bowl against the Baltimore Ravens. Now, expectations will be even higher heading into the 2013 season and while they entered the draft with numerous areas in need of improvement–it looks like they may have found their answer at free safety in Eric Reid.

The former LSU star has always seemed like that type of player who gets better with each season and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he worked his way into the starting lineup once Week 1 rolls around. There was a reason why San Francisco was willing to trade up in the first round to select Reid at No. 18 and if his college career is any indication of what’s to come at the pro level–the 49ers could have a star in the making in Reid.

San Francisco was a team known for their defense in 2012, but the safety position clearly needed to be addressed this offseason and it’s safe to say that hole will be filled with Reid. It’s always great to see rookies have an immediate impact during their rookie season and with the way things played out last year–the addition of Reid could make San Francisco’s defense even better next season.

With all the moves this team has been making this offseason–don’t be surprised if they come out on top in the NFC once again in 2013.
