One of the biggest surprises of the 2013 NFL Draft was the San Diego Chargers deciding to trade up in the second round to acquire former Notre Dame star Manti Te’o. Despite all of the controversy surrounding the hoax scandal from a couple of months ago, there’s no question Te’o is certainly worth the risk given the career he had at Notre Dame.
The only question–does Te’o have what it takes to start and make an impact for the Chargers as a rookie?
Forget everything that happened during the National Championship and at the NFL Combine–the fact is Te’o knows how to play football and could end up being a steal for San Diego in the second round. Not only is he great when it comes to defending the pass, but Te’o has proven to be an effective leader as well.
As long as he can manage to work on his speed–Te’o should have a bright future ahead of him with the Chargers.
Still, there’s still plenty of time before we’ll ever know whether or not the selection of Te’o will pay off, but the Chargers certainly have to like the potential that’s there. For a player that was originally supposed to be a high first-round pick, San Diego hopes this turns out to be a steal.
The Chargers certainly could use some help at the linebacker position–so Te’o certainly has a chance to make an immediate impact as a rookie during the 2013 season.
