Jacksonville Jaguars Should Stick with Blaine Gabbert

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the few teams in the NFL with no idea about who they are going to play at quarterback this fall. The Jaguars have Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne, Matt Scott (undrafted free agent from the Arizona Wildcats) and Jordan Rodgers (brother of Aaron Rodgers and undrafted free agent out of Vanderbilt) all competing for the quarterback position. There are even rumors that Tim Tebow may be headed to the Jaguars after the fans petitioned the team. However, Gabbert should be the player taking snaps for Jacksonville when the season starts.

Rodgers and Scott have a lot of potential, but they are nowhere near ready to compete in the NFL. Tebow could succeed with Jacksonville, but I don’t think the Jaguars will sign him. Henne is a solid quarterback, but Jacksonville is nowhere near capable of going to the playoffs with him throwing the ball around. He is too safe of a quarterback to have the type of season needed to take the Jaguars to the playoffs, and he would help this team best as a backup to Gabbert or Rodgers or Tebow or whoever the Jaguars play at the position.

Gabbert still has the arm and athleticism necessary to succeed in the NFL. He may have been thrust into playing in the NFL earlier than he should have been, but he is there and capable of playing in big games. Gabbert should be Jacksonville’s first choice at quarterback this upcoming season.
