NFL Futures: Atlanta Falcons Wrongly Ranked Behind Green Bay Packers for NFC Crown
If the Atlanta Falcons wanted some early motivation heading into the 2013 season, they might have some. Vegas has ranked the Falcons as the fourth most likely team to win the NFC this season. It’s not surprising to see the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks atop the list, but it is a bit perplexing to see the Green Bay Packers ranked third, ahead of Atlanta.
The Falcons are 8/1 to win the NFC crown, while the Packers sit at 6/1.
Sure, the Packers are a good team, and they figure to be right in mix next season, but more likely to win it all than the Falcons? Atlanta was a few plays away from the Super Bowl last year, while the Packers were absolutely crushed in the divisional round by the 49ers. I understand that past results aren’t the main factor in determining future favorites, but what about Green Bay’s offseason, makes them the third most likely to win the NFC?
The Packers and Falcons both had pretty good offseasons, in terms of acquistions, but I don’t think you can say that Green Bay really set themselves apart. Atlanta is still the better team top to bottom, and thus should be ranked third.
If you’re an Atlanta fan, and this upsets you, it’s understandable. However, there’s a positive in everything, and if the Falcons prove the Vegas experts wrong, it will only equal more money in the pockets of those who still had faith.
