Charles Woodson Appears to be Headed to the Denver Broncos

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Broncos‘ interest in safety, Charles Woodson continued to gain momentum late Tuesday afternoon. At this point, it would be a mild upset if the former Green Bay Packers great did not choose to sign with the Broncos.

In an interview with 102.3 ESPN in Denver, Woodson’s agent gave a couple of hints to what might happen. Carl Poston when asked what the biggest factor is for Woodson in deciding where to play in 2013 said: “He wants to play for a contender.”

That’s a big statement, especially when the only other team in the race for Woodson’s services is the Oakland Raiders. The only thing the Raiders are contending for is the number one overall pick in next year’s draft. The Broncos, meanwhile, are one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl and the addition of Woodson would only make them bigger favorites.

Poston was also asked if money would be a factor and his response was: “Money is always a factor, but Charles has taken care of his money. As I said earlier, he wants to play for a contender.” Poston all but said in the interview that if the Broncos are interested, a deal will get done quickly.

There have also been unconfirmed reports late on Tuesday that Woodson is hoping to leave Denver with a contract in hand. Again those are unconfirmed reports, but everything is pointing towards Woodson ending up with the Broncos within the next 48-72 hours.

Stay with Rant Sports as the story unfolds, we will have any and all updates. If John Elway and the Broncos pull this off, it would cap an unbelievable offseason and raise the bar even more for 2013.
