Over the last couple of days, there’s been plety of talk about the possibility of Brian Urlacher joining the Minnesota Vikings for the 2013 season as he continues to look for a new home since things failed to work out with the Chicago Bears. Urlacher has already been linked to the Vikings a few times this offseason and while he may have been worth the risk, it appears the team is passing on the future Hall of Fame linebacker for now.
At the moment, Minnesota has made it clear they’re going to pass on Urlacher for now and focus their attention on the current linebackers they have on the roster. After making a surprise run at the playoffs last year, expectations will be even higher for the Vikings heading into 2013 as they seem capable of having enough talent on both sides of the football to compete in the NFC North–whether Urlacher is part of the team or not.
As tempting as this may have been by the Vikings, passing on Urlacher for now seems like the right call considering one of the main factors for things not working out in Chicago was money. The Bears made it clear how much money they were willing to spend on Urlacher and there would be no room for negotiation–so it would be no surprise to see Urlacher asking for way too much money once again.
Still, just because the Vikings claim they’re not interested now doesn’t mean their feelings will change down the road–so keep an eye on this story over the next couple of weeks to see if anything changes.
