So ripping another player in the NFL is the way to go now? If you ask wide receiver Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers, he would say yes.

Recently Smith was co-hosting “The Drive” on WFNZ 610-AM in Charlotte, and the words that came out of his mouth were “Mark Sanchez, he sucks”. Then he went on to say “I wouldn’t let Mark Sanchez throw me a paper bag sandwich.” Smith, when was the last time you were in the NFL playoffs?

Last time I checked Smith had a pretty good throwing quarterback in Cam Newton and they still can’t lead the Panthers to the postseason. Luckily for Smith he won’t be facing the New York Jets until week 15 of the NFL season.

The thing that Smith and Sanchez both have in common is that they both have regressed in their careers, but Smith has regressed way longer. His best statistical season came in 2005 when he had 103 receptions, 1,563 yards, and had a career high 12 TD. Since ’05 Smith has not had a double-digit touchdown season. Smith, for you to try and kick Sanchez when he is going through a rough patch as a football player, says what type of person you are.

Just remember Smith, you had plenty of opportunities to come up big for your team in big games such as Super Bowl XXXVIII and the NFC championship game in ’05. Do you remember your shortcomings?

Sanchez is the quarterback for the Jets. He will rise to the top of the competition and win his job as the starting quarterback for the Jets.
