One of the biggest position battles to keep an eye on heading into training camp will be whether or not Josh Freeman can hold on to the starting job for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as rookie Mike Glennon will do whatever it takes to give him a run for the money. After showing potential a couple of years ago, there’s been plenty of questions surrounding Freeman over the last two seasons as he’s been one of the most inconsistent quarterbacks in the league and as bad as it sounds–this may be his last chance to prove himself with the Buccaneers.
If Tampa Bay was truly convinced about Freeman as their quarterback, they wouldn’t have used one of their draft picks on Glennon this year as the rookie seems to have the potential to eventually develop into an effective quarterback at the pro level. In fact, the Buccaneers appear to be confident enough in Glennon to give him plenty of reps during the preseason to give him an opportunity to prove himself.
And based off how many rookies started last year–it wouldn’t be a surprise if Glennon worked his way into the starting lineup.
Of course, it’s way too early to even begin talking about that as training camp is still a few months away. Either way, the Buccaneers have an interesting situation on their hands when it comes to this quarterback battle and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out when it’s all said and done.
